The VU has a Campus license with Esri. This way all students and employees have access to ArcGIS Online. In the 2021-2022 academic year you will receive access through this application form to fill in. From next academic year you can log in with the VU account.

ArcGIS Online is a cloud-based platform where you can download (map) files, save, share and collaborate within groups. You can always adjust the sharing level, so that you can work in closed learning environments or create a large reach for your data. In addition, simple maps can be made and analyzes can be performed.

ArcGIS Online also provides access to other ArcGIS products. First of all, the download of GIS software for desktop ArcGIS Pro is available. In addition, many ArcGIS applications available that make data collection and presentation of online maps easy. These are suitable for many applications in education and research. ArcGIS Pro, ArcMAP and QGIS

ArcGIS Pro is Esri's standard GIS desktop software and can be downloaded from ArcGIS Online. Esri has decided to stop updating ArcGIS Pro's predecessor, ArcMAP. This will still be supported until 2026 and will be on email request provided.

QGIS is open-source software that is free to download and does not require a license. Although ArcGIS is still the most common software among universities, government agencies and companies, QGIS seems to be gaining market share. The ease of use and application possibilities of QGIS are at least as good as ArcGIS. There is an active community that has developed numerous plug-ins to configure the software exactly for your purposes. ArcGIS remains the preferred choice for 3D scenes, an online collaboration environment and applications.
